It is Dr. Buchanan's goal to understand the totality of the human person by bringing together his analysis of both the brain and the mind. This creates a formulation that is complete and fully integrated. 

Once a 360 degree comprehensive neuropsychiatric assessment is complete, a treatment plan is designed.

Neurological Diseases with Psychiatric symptoms (including but not limited to)

• Alzheimer's disease / Other dementia disorders
• Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

• Epilepsy
• Parkinson's Disease/Other Movement Disorders
• Pain Syndromes after a stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), brain tumor, or spine Infection.

• Neuropsychiatric consultation with recommendations for the patient's treating neurologist or psychiatrist

• Psychopharmacology (medication management)

Functional Neurosurgery looks to restore function of the Nervous System. Stimulation techniques (like Deep Brain or Spinal Cord Stimulation) or the infusion of medications are used. 

Dr. Buchanan works closely with the patient's neurologist or psychiatrist to determine if surgery is indicated.

Movement Disorders (including but not limited to)

Interventions include Deep Brain Stimulation

Pain disorders

• Chronic Pain
• Failed back intervention
• Failed surgery

Interventions include Spinal Cord Stimulation, Pain Pumps, Motor Cortex Stimulation, and Deep Brain Stimulation

Psychiatric

• Psychiatric Disorders (Deep Brain Stimulation and Vagal Nerve Stimulation) - 
• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
• Major Depressive Disorder

Interventions include Deep Brain Stimulation and Vagal Nerve Stimulation.

Other Interventions

• Epilepsy surgery: Vagal Nerve Stimulation or other stimulation techniques
• Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus: Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt
